It meets or exceeds the impact absorbing requirements of ASTM 1292, as required by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, and the handicap Accessibility requirements of the Americans With Disabilities Act. Unlike competing products, it is not made from sawmill waste, but from a proprietary blend of cured heartwoods, giving it strong advantages in longevity, impact attenuation, and safety. The fines have been removed, along with oversize commonly called "spears", "clubs", and "missiles". It is made only from "virgin materials", meaning the feedstock has not been subjected to paints, chemicals, coatings, glues, or laminations.
